Putting People First

Understanding Workplace Behaviour

The Tip Of The Iceberg

At first glance, all we can know about other people is what they actually do or say – that is, their behaviour. In fact, much misunderstanding can take place by making assumptions about things unseen, like trying to guess others’ intentions, integrity and sincerity. But it’s not possible for us to guess how someone is thinking or feeling. We can only go by their behaviour.

Behaviour can be compared to the tip of an iceberg. It is there for everyone to see. How we interact with others in the open, determines the kind of response we will get.

For example, how a manager behaves with their employees will either build or diminish trust in each encounter they have. Effective managers use their behaviour to function as trust-builders.

So How Do You Measure Behaviour?

Unlike personality profile testing such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®, the DiSC® Behavioural Model measures behaviour. In particular, it measures behaviour based on how people view themselves in relation to the environment. An added benefit to this is that DiSC also enables individuals to understand other people’s behaviour as well, enabling them to adapt their communication styles to suit each person.

It is for these reasons that Integro have strongly believed in the use of the DiSC for employee development and team building.
